Tartan 3700 Sans Frontieres participating in the 2011 Baja Haha!!!
Sans Frontieres owner Nicolas Jonville has entered Sans Frontieres, a 2007 Tartan 3700, in this years Baja Ha-Ha. This is an annual cruising rally from San Diego to Cabo San Lucas, scheduled to start on October 24, 2011 and finish November 5, 2011. This event stops at Turtle Bay and Bahia Santa Maria, before continuing on to Cabo San Lucas.
Along with Nicolas will be friends and fellow TOSCA members Frederic Hayem (Tartan 3700 owner Taina) and Don McLennan (Tartan 3500 owner Intuition). Nico has been readying San Frontieres for this event. Nico, Fred and Don have been practicing off the coast of San Diego and refining techniques for handling the cruising spinnaker.
After the completion of the Baja Ha-Ha, the Sans Frontieres team will continue to La Paz, where Sans Frontieres will be based for winter cruising in the Sea of Cortez.
On Saturday 8/20, Nico & Fred tried the symmetric spinnaker on Sans Frontieres (SF) in preparation for the Baja Ha Ha. SF doesn't have a lifting pole line so instead they used the self-tacking jib sheet. Seems to work just fine.
